Best Practice for Pitching Brands

Pitching your services to brands can be overwhelming – where do you even start? Here we break it down to help you feel more confident and help you secure more partnerships with food companies.

Use the tips and pitch template on the following pages to position your value, offer your services, and secure more brand partnerships!

BE STRATEGIC, CHOOSE BEST-FIT BRANDS

You will be more successful if you are strategic in your outreach and pursue brands that are truly a good fit for you and your audience.

BE SPECIFIC IN YOUR OFFERINGS

Rather than “I could do recipe development, social media, consulting, or anything you need”, try “I’m planning a social media campaign for Mother’s Day (or for athletes or for the holidays, etc.) and would love to feature your products…”. This makes it easier for the recipient to make a yes or no decision, rather than ‘We’ll keep it mind”.

KEEP IT BRIEF

People don’t read long emails. Include a quick intro, why you like their products, how you could promote their products, and a call to action.

HAVE MORE INFORMATION READY TO FOLLOW UP

Think a step ahead and anticipate what information they will need and have the details ready to share. For example, what is the reach; when will you need product by; what’s included in the package; what are your rates, etc

INCLUDE A CALL TO ACTION

For example; Take a look at my attached media kit; Would you like to schedule a call; or Could you put me in touch with your marketing team? This gives them clear direction so they will know how to respond.

BE POLITE, PROFESSIONAL, CHEERFUL, & QUICK TO RESPOND

Show your excitement about the brand and products and make them excited about the possibility of working with you.

ENSURE IT WOULD BE A MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL PARTNERSHIP

Focus on the value you could provide them. Aside from your credential – what is the benefit to them? Do you reach their target audience? Is the topic of your segment a perfect fit for their brand?

FOLLOW UP

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back right away. Be polite and patient, yet persistent, and don’t be afraid to follow up more than once– continuing to offer customized value along the way. We have secured partnerships after reaching out to brands 4+ times!
